How to Make a Better You – Your Abundant Life
by Nina Sabin - Healthy Tip
Do you know there is a manual for pretty much everything in life? A manual on how to take care of your car, your tv, your iPhone, your computer, etc. However, what about a manual for life?
There is actually a manual for life and it is called the Bible. Most of us know about the Bible. But what do you believe it is? Do you believe it is just a bunch of stories? Things that only happened in the past? A good guide to live by? Or the inspired word of God that directly tells us how to live?
Most people were brought up believing in something…’a higher power’. However, discussing God outside the church seems taboo. People become offensive or even upset. Why is that?
We were created as physical, mental, and spiritual beings. We care for the physical being through eating healthy and exercising. We care for the mental being by reading and educating our minds. However, how do we feed the spiritual which affects our relationship with ourselves and others?
People crave wanting to know what their purpose is. Why am I here? However, if you mention God, people tend to run the other way. Why is that? I think it is because we fear the unknown, scared of the spiritual, of what we can’t relate to or understand.
If you have never gone through a severe depressive episode, it may be difficult to relate. It is not just being sad over something; it could be as bad as actually losing the will to live. It is not been able to feel any happiness, having no energy, unable to focus and living in a darkness that is indescribable. You know these feelings are not you, but the disease is so strong you can’t just pull out of it on your own.
I have learned that depression could be due to a chemical imbalance that happens in one’s brain. Pre-menopause and menopause can also cause depression.
We all have struggles in life. However, God is always with us. Even if you lose the will to live, God will never give up on you. He will constantly draw you back to Him, by showing His love to you. However, you must be attentive to His voice.
Asking ‘why am I here’ can sometimes make you feel worse. However, when you take your focus off yourself and lean on God, you will learn that your purpose comes from Him. It is not about what you accomplish, how smart you are, or how successful you are at your job. It is about the fact that you are a child of God; He created each one of us; and most of all He loves us.
He wants us all to have an abundant life He designed for us. What does abundant mean? The Bible says in John 10:10…I (Jesus) have come that they (all people) may have life, and have it to the full. (NIV)
It is not about discussing religions; it is about having a personal relationship with God. It starts by asking Him into your heart. Many people fill their days with activities even ones for the church but do they truly know God in their heart?
As I have mentioned in my other blogs, we can’t do life on our own. It isn’t how we are designed. When we try to do things on our own; we tend to struggle in life. That is because we need God and each other to be accountable to staying focused on Him.
Don’t you want to have the abundant life God planned for you? Isn’t it time to let go of the hurts of the past, frustrations of life, struggles of life, and move forward? God is waiting for you to ask Him into your heart.
Robert Morris has a great series called Room 12 Religious Roots. In this series, he shares his journey to being saved. How even though at the age of eight he accepted Jesus into His life, he didn’t have the right motive and his life did not change. It is only when you accept Jesus into your heart and let the Holy Spirit work in your life can you truly experience God in your life and see changes.
I have also seen that in my life. I accepted Jesus into my life at the age of 17. I knew of Him, read the verses in the Bible, even memorized many that helped me throughout my life. However, just recently I have really submitted my whole life to Him. What I mean is I was still running my life, making my decisions, thinking I had to accomplish things to be successful. I wasn’t giving God total control of my life.
Now that I have totally submitted my life to God, my life is changing in amazing ways. I feel His love flow through me. Every moment of every day is His. No matter what obstacle may come my way I know God is with me and will see me through in miraculous ways. I no longer fear or worry because I know God is my ‘Everything’. He is all I need. The Bible says in Psalm 16:5 – 8 You, Lord, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands. How wonderful are your gifts to me; how good they are! I praise the Lord, because he guides me, and in the night my conscience warns me. I am always aware of the Lord's presence; He is near, and nothing can shake me. And so I am thankful and glad, and I feel completely secure…(GNT)
