Do you know what it means to be nourished? Totally nourished? Most people when they think of being nourished or nourishment, their mind goes directly to what they eat and how it affects the health of their body. But did you know there are more areas in our life that need to be nourished not just our health through food?

Let’s start with the definition of being nourished or nourishment. According to Oxford US Dictionary the word nourish is a verb and has two meanings: 1) provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, healthy, and good condition, 2) Keep (a feeling or belief) in one’s mind, typically for a long time. Nourishment is a noun and means: 1) the food or other substances necessary for growth health, and good condition, 2) the action of nourishing someone or something.

So as you can see, it is not only our physical body that needs to be nourished but also our mind, soul, and spirit.

Each one of us was designed with three basic needs: love, belonging, and security. Those needs fall into five areas of our lives: health, finances, self-worth, relationships, and connection with God. If one of those needs are not being met in one or more of those five areas, then we are not being totally nourished. The most important one that will help with all nourishment is our connection with God.

Through my journey of becoming a healthy life coach I have obtained resources that helped me and others learn what areas are not being nourished and how to bring nourishment back into their lives. In this blog, I offer one of those tools so you can begin your own awareness in what areas of your life your needs are not being met and how to move forward to become totally nourished.

It is called the Wheel of Life. The goal is to learn what areas in your life are not fulfilling and then to learn why that is the case. Most often, we go on living a life that is missing total nourishment. God did not intend for us to live that way. He designed us to have an abundant life. We generally settle because it is what we know. Isn’t now the time for you to become aware of what areas in your life needs to be nourished and make the changes to receive that nourishment?

Here are steps you can take to lead you to total nourishment in your life. Recognize the areas that are lacking nourishment in your life, ask yourself why are they lacking, identify what is holding you back from having nourishment in that area and move to making a change so that you can have total nourishment. Unfortunately, many people look for nourishment in the unhealthy ways like overeating, alcohol, or drugs to fill the void but in the end only leads to an unhealthier life… obesity, diabetes, depression, anxiety, addiction, etc.

I realized my biggest fulfillment in all my areas came from growing with my relationship with God. The more I pray, the more I read His Word, the more I understand how much He loves me and that He has a plan and purpose in my life, the more my life has become totally nourished.

I learned I was relying on the wrong things to fill me. I thought my husband, my friends, my job, my kids, sweets, and filling my days with activities could fill all my need to be nourished (love, belonging, and security). However, all of those things will meet your needs for a while, but they are imperfect and will eventually let you down.

God is perfect, He is always with us, His love is unconditional, and He will never let us down. Though we will still have obstacles and trials in our lives, the great thing to know is we are never alone. God is always there by our side; it is our choice to reach out and ask Him for help.

Here are some Bible verses for you to meditate on to understand how to be totally nourished and fulfilled by walking with God.

God is perfect…As humans we all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.

Romans 3:23-25 (NASB – New American Standard Bible) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed…

God is perfect so as His Children we should strive to be perfect… but we can’t do that on our own, this is only done through relying on the Lord.

Matthew 5:48 (NASB) Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

God is always with us…

Joshua 1:9 (NASB) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

His love is unconditional…

Psalm 103:8-11 (NASB) The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in loving kindness. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving kindness toward those who fear Him.

He will never let us down…

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NASB) Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”
