How to Make a Better You – How to Beat Worry
by Nina Sabin - Healthy Tip
Worry – it is like the plague. We all seem to worry. Even when we don’t want to. We even tend to worry even when there is nothing to worry about.
Worry can lead to health problems: high blood pressure, ulcers, heart problems, etc.
We worry about the future, what people think about us, our school work, our job, what to wear, for our family… anything can cause us to worry.
The question is why worry? The truth is we don’t have control of our future. God is in control. As I mentioned in Health Chat with Nina, if we believe that God is in control, we can have a worry free life if we allow ourselves to live in the moment and give the future to God.
The problem is we don’t live in the moment. We are always thinking about something else and that is what causes worry. Instead of appreciating what we have now, we are busy worrying and missing the opportunity to enjoy the experience we are having now.
So how can you avoid falling into the trap of worrying for the future?
Here are a few helpful tips.
1) Be aware of what is causing your worry.
2) Write down your concerns.
3) Pray for those concerns.
4) Let go of those concerns and give them to God.
5) Live in the moment and not in the future.
I used to be the world’s worst worrier. I worried about pretty much everything. What was going to happen the next day, what would happen to my children, what people thought of me, etc?
Overtime and by trying these steps, I learned that worrying is not beneficial. It only leads to a lack of sleep, irritability, stomach issues, and other physical symptoms.
All of us want a worry free life, but we need to take the steps to let go of that worry.
