Now that we are in the holiday season and finishing 2020, all I can say is wow, what a year! It has been a year of disquietude and trials for almost everyone around the world. However, it is also a year to learn that we need to trust God and have Him centered in our life. No one could have imagined a pandemic would take over the world in 2020 or that we would be debating over the next president. Instead of focusing on the craziness of the world, try to focus on the one who created us and knows all that is happening. Nothing is a surprise to Him and nothing happens without His plan. We can only see what is directly in front of us, but God has the future mapped out, that is why trusting Him is the only way to have peace.

Unfortunately, letting go and trusting that God has everything worked out is ‘easier said than done’. How are we able to have peace, love, and joy even during this hectic time? We have to work on our thoughts, perspective, and expectations.

I do not know about you but getting ready for Christmas is both exciting and chaotic at the same time. For some people it stirs us sad memories of not having a loved on around to celebrate with. This year especially, with the uncertainty of Covid, many people are opting to have virtual holidays, which stirs up so many emotions.

In the end, the only way to find peace, love, and joy is by not focusing on the circumstances and focusing on God. I use the following verse to often to remind me of God’s love and support. I know it will help me through this holiday season and I hope it will bring you encouragement too: 1 Thessalonians 5:16 – 18 Always be joyful.Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (NLT)

As you prepare for the holiday season, focus on your blessings. Start a gratitude journal and list down one thing every day that you are grateful for. It may be difficult at first, especially if you are emotional and hurting, but overtime the more you list things you are grateful for the more you will experience peace, love, and joy.

Here are three things that will help bring you peace, love and joy.

First - Remember the way to be joyful always is to check: what you are thinking, what you are focusing on, and what you feeling – change the negative into positive. Try not to allow yourself to continue to address those negative feelings, which will only cause you chaos and pain, instead replace them with uplifting ones.

Second – Never stop praying. Prayer helps, prayer heals, and God hears.

Third – Be thankful in all circumstances. Even in the toughest, craziest times, there is something, even it is small, to be thankful for.

So as we enter 2021, continue thank God for all the blessing he has bestowed upon you and the joy he has brought to your life.

Sometimes, it is hard to change those thoughts on our own and we need support and accountability.
