How to Make a Better You – Exercise…What is My Niche?

Each of us know the importance of exercising but we rarely seem to find the time to be consistent. We start out the New Year with grandiose plans to exercise 3 times a week for 20 minutes at a time. That is the standard for staying healthy. Within the first month our life gets busy, we are too tired, and it takes too much effort to get to the gym… all excuses. The goal is you need to find what exercise works for you.
Traditional exercise of going to the gym works for some people, but for the majority of the population that doesn’t seem to be enough motivation. Think about what passions you have. It could be tennis, swimming, golf, dancing, etc. Exercising with friends is a great way to stay motivated. Walking together while you socialize, going to a class together, etc. can help pass the time of ‘boring’ exercise.
For me, dancing is my form of exercise. It is not only great physically, but it is fun, rewarding, therapeutic, and great for the brain. Currently, I am dancing two nights a week. I am not doing the traditional hip-hop or Zumba dancing. As I get older those dances are too hard on the body. Rather, I am doing English Country Dancing for two hours, which my husband attends as well and line dancing for two hours. As you can see from the links it is enjoyment for all ages. It’s a great way to socialize and exercise with friends and family.
Take time to search your passions; try different types until you find the one that fits you…your niche. Find an exercise that makes you feel good, that you want to commit to, and enjoy. Exercising consistently and in a way that benefits you will help make you healthy and “make a better you”.
