How to Make a Better You – Believing in Yourself

How many times a day do you struggling with feeling bad about yourself? Have you ever felt depressed? Too often we listen to the lies about ourselves that we hear in our head -what we think we should be doing or what we should be like. Society has a view of what we should look like, what we should wear, how we should act, the type of job we should be doing, and what is deemed successful. It could drive a person “batty” trying to measure up to what the world considers success.

The Bible tells us there is good and evil in the world. It is a spiritual battle that goes on daily in our lives. The devil is the father of lies. John 8:44 He deceives us, which in return causes us to look down upon ourselves. However, God has a better plan for us. He created us each uniquely and wonderfully made. God has made us in His image and has a plan and purpose in our lives. We need to remind ourselves daily that God has designed us for good and not evil. We are important and special.

Each of us are designed with talents and gifts to serve God’s purpose. Do you know what those gifts and talents are? It took me years to understand what my gifts are and the purposes for those gifts. Also, your gifts will be used in different seasons of your life.

I am very organized person and think logically. I also have a caring heart and care about those who are around me. This made me a successful teacher in my previous career. Now I use those same gifts for writing articles, volunteering at organizations, and mentoring to those who are hurting through life circumstances.

How do you find your gifts and talents? Here is a list of ways to find what they are:

1) Make a list of the things you excel at (they are from God).

2) Make a list of what you are passionate about (those passions come from God).

3) Make a list of how those skills help others (that is God’s plan)

4) Be observant on how God has used your gifts and talents in the past (this makes you aware)

5) Be ready to use your gifts and talents for the future (this makes you prepared)

Throughout my husband’s life, he would have visions about something which would occur in the future. At the time he did not realize they were from God. Recently, he has had several Words of Knowledge from God that has impacted many people’s lives.

“God gave you talents to benefit others, not yourself. And God gave other people talents that benefit you.” - Hugh Whelchel

So know you are one of a kind. God designed you for his purpose. Don’t be concerned about what others think about how you act, what you wear, or what job you have. Keep your eyes focused on the fact that God has designed you the way you are for His will. It is not about how successful you are in the world – it is how successful you are for God by using your talents and gifts to help others.

To “Make a Better You” believe in yourself and know God has designed you with the talents and gifts you need to be successful in life.
